Don’t try this at home. 9am in Ballard. Shilshole Ave. Heading southeast. How many ways are there to crash?
Take a look for yourself. The pavement is so rotten that it turned my camera off mid-ride.

I personally love to just take the lane. Ride right down the middle, especially when a Salmon Bay Gravel truck or a Ballard Oil truck are back there. I was buzzed a couple of years ago and now feel no compulsion to ride that close to the side of the road.
you know what this needs? a comparison video with a good route so non-riders have some perspective and understand how crappy that area is.
Hah! How’d you do in that crater at 17th where impatient cars like to go offroad around cars waiting to turn left?
I heard but unfortunately missed seeing a car hit that mineshaft at speed (hidden by puddle) on the way home today. Sounded like a broken axle at least.
Totcycle, that crater at 17th is huge! I’ve been watching it grow all winter. If you noticed, I tried quite hard to not go through any puddles, not knowing for certain what is hidden under them.
Charlie, that is a good idea! Thanks.
